Held Racer Report: Leon Jeacock, Geo E Davies & Smirk Racing, National Superstock 1000

The Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit was the final destination for Leon and the Geo E Davies & Smirk Racing team in their 2018 Pirelli National Superstock1000 Championship season. On the back of the good form of recent meetings the team were very confident of a good result to end the campaign and also to build on for 2019.

Free practice one went well for the team and put in a time good enough for seventh position. The team made some adjustments for the second free practice session and Leon improved his time by half a second and took fifth fastest time. It wasn’t all good for Leon however as on his last lap of the session he crashed and got caught up in the wheel of the Suzuki, his leg taking the brunt of the damage. Despite this very painful injury he was determined to ride in the qualifying session on Saturday. He did a fantastic lap even with his troubles and took thirteenth on the grid.

The fourteen-lap race would be a trial for Leon but he rode a superb race. Making up a number of places on the opening lap he crossed the line in seventh position. He dropped to eighth position on lap two which he held for a number of laps. Losing another place to ninth he fought back in the later stages of the race and took eighth position at the chequered flag. This was a good result for Leon and the team after the accident on Friday afternoon.

The result leaves Leon in twelfth place in the final Championship standings. Speaking after Leon said “we had a great day Friday bar the last lap of free practice two where I was lucky to walk away from the crash, I wasn’t going to let the sponsors and team down though for the last race of the season and we battled through to get a great result of eighth place. Held Racer Report: Leon Jeacock, Geo E Davies and Smirk Racing, Silverstone

Leon and the Geo E Davies & Smirk Racing Team rolled into Silverstone for the latest round of the Pirelli National SuperStock 1000 Championship. This was a weekend of considerable progress for the team and left with confidence sky-high. A change from the norm as the Silverstone National circuit was being used instead of the GrandPrix layout due to the MotoGP debacle a couple of weeks before.

Leon quickly settled into a good rhythm on the National circuit and was inside the top ten in both free practice sessions. Having found a good set up this all went out the window for the qualifying session on Saturday morning as it was held in wet conditions, however Leon put in a faultless display and took a brilliant fifth place on the grid for the first of the triple header race weekend.

Leon took a ninth place finish in race one after losing a number of places in the closing stages as his tyre started to delaminate. This problem would rear its head all weekend. Race two proved fruitful for Leon again as he battled hard and came in eleventh place gaining valuable points after more tyre issues. 

Race three was held on Sunday and once again he was in the mix and put in a gritty performance as his tyre gave up laps before the end of the race. He made it a clean sweep of points finishes in the three races by taking twelfth place.

The outstanding performance of Leon and the team over the weekend have pushed him into the Top Ten of the Championship which is well deserved. Speaking after the round Leon said “Overall it was a great weekend for the team as it showed our pace and I am happy with the results despite the tyre problems which held us back in the races.

Held Racer Report: Leon Jeacock, National Superstock 1000, Cadwell Park

The latest round of the Pirelli National Superstock1000 Championship was held at the highly challenging Cadwell Park, Lincolnshire. Leon and the Geo E Davies & Smirk Racing team were looking to continue the good form at a circuit that isn’t a particular favourite of Leon’s. It was going to be a tough weekend but at the end a fruitful one for rider and team in more ways than one.

Free practice one went well for Leon as he found a good set up and put in competitive

lap times and took eighth fastest in the session. The team and Leon were pleased with the result and knew they had more to come with some changes to try. Session two went even better and he went significantly faster and finished in tenth position, confidence was soaring in Leon and the team for the qualifying session to be held on the Saturday. Leon went faster still in the sole qualifying session, despite this with the class being ultra- competitive he set a time good enough for tenth, a great effort by all.

Enthused with his weekend so far Leon was looking forward to the race and as he lined up tenth he knew he had the pace to take a good result. Dropping to eleventh on lap one then fell a further place back on lap two to twelfth place, Leon though was playing the long game and as the race went on he was running a good pace and on lap nine he jumped up two places to tenth and was closing in on ninth at the end of the race.

Leon said after “Overall we had a great weekend, in the top ten fastest in all sessions at a track that is my least favourite, we as a team are now looking forward to the next round at Silverstone with relish”

Held Racer Report: National Superstock 1000 Brands Hatch: Leon Jeacock

Leon and the Geo E Davies and Smirk Racing team returned to Brands Hatch for round six of the Pirelli National SuperStock1000 Championship. The Grand Prix layout was being used on this occasion (the Indy circuit having been used earlier in the season) After two points scoring finishes in the last round Leon was hoping for more success on a circuit he enjoys.

Free practice went well for Leon, finishing in the top ten in free practice one he then applied some changes in free practice two, this coupled with the rise in temperature in the afternoon sun resulted in thirteenth place, but had a good set up for the stand alone qualifying session to be held on Saturday morning for which the grid would be set for the two-part race later in the day. Qualifying went well for the team and Leon took eleventh place on the grid which was a third row place. 

Making a great start and tagging onto the lead pack Leon was settling into a good race pace when a mechanical problem caused him to pull out of the race which meant he couldn’t start the second part. The mood was deflated but the team knew they had the speed and set up for a good result in Sundays race.

Tenth on the grid for Leon once again gave him the chance to run with the leading group from the start and this he did. Making three places in the early laps he got stuck behind the sixth place rider for a sizeable part of the race and when he finally passed him the gap to the top five group was too big to bridge in the remaining laps. He crossed the line in sixth place which was his best result of the season for Leon and the team and they go onto Thruxton full of confidence and hoping to repeat this result.

Speaking after Leon said “we got the result we wanted, we came with the intention of a top ten finish and to get that after the disappointment of Saturdays mechanical woes where we couldn’t finish race one or start race two, the team are over the moon” adding “we move onto Thruxton now, another circuit I enjoy and we are aiming for a top five finish there, thanks to all the sponsors and team members for all their help hope they enjoy the result as much as I have”.

Held Racer Report: Leon Jeacock, Geo Davies & Smirk racing, Snetterton BSB

The Snetterton300 track was the next port of call for Leon and the Geo E Davies with Smirk Racing Team in the Pirelli National SuperStock1000 Championship. Having tested there earlier, Leon was confident of a good qualifying and race result. He was hoping to continue with the excellent form over the past couple of rounds.

Free practice one was held in sunny conditions and Leon was in scintillating form as he posted a time to bag fifth fastest. He was more than pleased with that as a starting base and was looking to build on that in second free practice. The pace hotted up in free practice two although he quicker again he fell to eighth place.

The team and Leon were feeling confident for the sole qualifying session on Saturday. He was aiming for a top ten grid slot and he achieved this going quicker again with a time of 1 minute 50.890 seconds and this placed him tenth on the starting grid of Sundays race. Making a good start in the race Leon held his position in the first lap bumping and boring and then all the weekends good work came to an abrupt end. Making a move to take seventh position on lap two Leon had a high side and crashed out of the race ending his point scoring run in a heap.

Speaking after the race Leon said “Snetterton has been another major step forward for us as a team, we haven’t been out of the top ten throughout free practice and qualifying and I felt strong on the Suzuki which led to my downfall in the race as I probably pushed to hard in the race causing the high side” “We go to Knockhill full of confidence and we are looking to getting back in the points again” he added that he wanted to thank all his sponsors for their continued support.

Held Racer Report: Leon Jeacock, Cadwell Park, National Superstock 1000

Cadwell Park was the latest stop in the Pirelli National SuperStock1000 Championship. A technical track with a tight twisty section, a long straight and the infamous “Mountain” it is not a track for the faint hearted. It was certainly going to be a challenging, tough weekend of racing for Leon and the Geo E Davies Racing team.

The two free practice sessions were held in dry conditions and after posting a time in the top thirty in session one the team made changes to the Suzuki in preparation for the following practice laps. The adjustments made for session two proved to make a big improvement and confidence was high for Leon. Nevertheless, due to the competitive nature of the class and despite going nearly two seconds quicker he was placed twenty third.

As preparation was made for the sole qualification session of the weekend the team were hopeful of a good grid position. However, the vagaries of the British weather put pay to that as a rain shower dampened the circuit just as qualifying started. Leon put in a decent lap and finished just outside the top twenty in twenty second.

Dropping a place on the first lap in the midfield hordes Leon made up two places on lap two and then settled into a decent race pace running in a group of six riders for the majority of lap fifteen race. As the race rolled into the closing laps he made up four places in the hoisting Leon up to sixteenth place just outside a points finish.

Held Racer Report: Leon Jeacock, Snetterton BSB

The Snetterton300 Circuit held the latest round of the Pirelli National SuperStock1000 Championship and Leon and the team were hoping for a good result after the last couple of rounds. Sadly this didn’t prove to the case as it turned into a very testing weekend for both rider and team.

From first free practice, right through to qualifying Leon suffered numerous niggles with the Suzuki and all in all it was a difficult few sessions for the team. In free practice one Leon posted a time good enough to be in the top fifteen and held on to this position in free practice two. Qualifying was held in hot conditions and as the temperature soared the fortunes of the team dipped. 

A brake problem raised its ugly head and Leon was struggling to get the Suzuki stopped at the end of the two long straights at Snetterton. This problem dropped Leon down the order and he took eighteenth place on the grid.

Making a good start and holding position for the first couple of laps, the front brake problem resurfaced and after taking evasive action on lap three he dropped down the field to twenty fourth place. Now he was not only fighting the technical problem but having to claw his way back through the midfield pack and this he did very well. He had made it back to twentieth when he had to retire from the race due to the brake problem becoming un-rideable.

Speaking after Leon said “we have had a disappointing weekend but we now have two weeks till the Brands Hatch round to sort the Suzuki and we will be going for it from the off” He also added “he wanted to thank all his sponsors for the help and backing they are giving him this season”

Held Racer Report: Leon Jeacock, Rd 12 Pirelli National Superstock1000 Championship

Mission Accomplished

Leon went into the last round of the Pirelli National Superstock1000 Championship with Black Horse at the iconic Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit with the aim of finishing in the top ten of this highly competitive series. A task made even more daunting by the decision switch to the ‘NMT No Limits’ Kawasaki team after an approach by the team to ride their machine.

Acclimatising to the Kawasaki after a season on his BMW, he was relatively pleased with his seventeenth place in the free practice session but was hoping to make more progress in qualifying one after changes to the machine. Leon posted a time good enough for twenty third on the provisional grid with qualifying two to come. With adjustments made for qualifying two overnight Leon was confident of improving on his time. Although he achieved this by going a second faster he was still left in twenty third on the starting grid due to the quality and speed in this championship.

Leon needed to dig deep if he was going to claim a top ten finish in the final standings from his starting position. Making a great start he finished lap one in fourteenth place and was deep inside the midfield scrap with all the riders battling hard. By half distance he was up to eleventh place and looking to break into the top ten. Disappointingly for Leon though the tyres started to lose their edge and he dropped a number of places before the end of the twelve laps. Despite this he gained two precious points for finishing fourteenth and these ensured he finished in the top ten in the championship.

Speaking after his race he said “massive thanks to my family, sponsors, supporters and friends who have all helped me achieve my best ever season in national racing, it’s been unbelievable, bring on 2017”

Held Racer Report: Leon Jeacock, National Superstock 1000, Donington Park

Consistency pays off with another points finish

The penultimate round of the Pirelli National Superstock1000 Championship with Black Horse took place at Donington Park. This is almost home turf for Leon and one of his favourite circuits, with its fast flowing bends and tight hairpins giving close racing and plenty of overtaking opportunities.

Leon decided to sit out the free practice session on Friday morning as a rain shower had left the circuit wet. With more rain threatening the decision was made to wait until the afternoons qualifying session to enter the fray. Qualifying one was held in dry conditions and he took a provisional fifteenth on the grid. Despite having a good base set up the Geo E Davies Racing team made a few tweaks overnight for the second qualifying session to be held on Saturday. 

The changes made to the machine certainly worked for Leon as he knocked nearly half a second from qualifying one and moved up to twelfth on the grid. He was confident of another points finish in the race to be held on Sunday.

Making an uncharacteristically poor start Leon slipped down to fourteenth position on lap one. His fightback started almost immediately and by lap seven of the ten lap race he had made it back into the top ten. With three laps left Leon managed to claw back another position and finished in ninth spot. 

Another solid points finish for him and the team leaving him in tenth place in the Championship amidst a tight battle, with four other riders sitting closely around his tally of forty-eight points.

Leon said “I am pleased with the result after the slow start and it was pleasing to ride in front of so many people who help me and the team to be here at what is our home round really. We now move onto Brands Hatch for the final round of 2016 and hopefully a good result to go into the winter with. Many thanks to all my sponsors once again”

Held Racer Report: BSB Round 8, Brands Hatch: Leon Jeacock, National Superstock 1000

Round eight of the Pirelli National Superstock1000 Championship with Black Horse took place at Brands Hatch on the legendary Grand Prix circuit, a track that Leon enjoys. With this in mind hopes were high that he would bounce back and finish in the points again following a disappointing round at Thruxton.

Free practice went well for Leon and he put in a lap time good enough for tenth place. Having made a few minor adjustments during the session it was obvious that the Geo E Davies Racing squad had a good base set up for the two all- important qualifying sessions. In sixteenth place on the provisional grid following the first session, Leon knew he could go faster in qualifying two and the team made a few more tweaks to the BMW. He put in a stunning effort and carved nearly a second off his first session time taking tenth place on the grid for the race. He was only 0.4 of a second of pole, a great effort by rider and team.

Fifteen laps lay ahead of Leon and he made a great start off the line, making a couple of places in the first corner shakeup. However, he nearly lost it all coming out of Graham Hill bend. getting power on a tad early he was almost out of his seat and lost the places he had made off the start. Settling into a rhythm Leon put in consistent fast laps and enjoyed a race long duel with a couple of riders but they were unable to tag onto the leading group of eight riders. At the chequered flag he crossed the line in tenth position, another good points haul for Leon.

Speaking after he said “as a team we had a great weekend, we had a good base setup and hardly made any changes over the weekend just a few minor tweaks. So pleased with only being off pole by 0.4 of a second in such a competitive class. I had a good start in the race got a bit excited out of Graham Hill bend nearly coming out the seat but got my head down and happy to finish in the points again. Want to say much appreciation to my sponsors, family and friend without whom this wouldn't be possible”

Held Racer Report: BSB Round 7, Thruxton, Leon Jeacock

The ultra-fast speed bowl circuit of Thruxton in Hampshire held the latest round of the Pirelli National Superstock1000 Championship with Black Horse for Leon and the Geo E Davies Racing team. A circuit Leon enjoys due to its high speed nature he had high hopes to carry on his great points scoring form of the last few rounds.

Free practice did not go to plan for Leon and the team as the settings they thought would offer the best performance did not meet expectations, despite this he posted a time good enough for eleventh fastest. The team set about making changes to the BMW overnight and he was confident of going faster in the two qualifying sessions to be held on the Saturday.

Qualifying one was held on Saturday morning with second qualifying to be held later in the day. The overnight modifications worked well and Leon knocked a half second off his free practice time to finish in the top twelve. The hot weather and the abrasive tarmac of the Thruxton circuit meant going faster in the heat of the afternoon would be quite an achievement, despite the conditions Leon was able to slightly improve on his time which boded well for the race.

Starting from thirteenth on the grid Leon made a good start and held his position on the first lap. Trouble hit on lap two though as the BMW jumped out of gear and he fell down to twenty sixth place after taking avoiding action and running off the track. Leon set about clawing his way back up the field, carving his way through to sixteenth place and was looking to climb into the top fifteen for another points finish, however yet again the machine jumped out of gear, although he ran off track he was able to hold onto sixteenth place at the chequered flag.

Leon said after “I am very disappointed not to carry on my good run of form, but I am looking forward to the next round at Brands Hatch on the Grand Prix layout. I like the track and am happy about the way I fought back after my off track excursions. I would like to add my great thanks to all my sponsors, family and friends for their support”.

Held Racer Report: Leon Jeacock, National Superstock 1000, RD6, Snetterton

Once again Leon finishes in the points in the Pirelli National Superstock1000 Championship with Black Horse at the Snetterton 300 circuit. 

The Norfolk track holds multiple challenges for both rider and machine encompassing tight hairpins, fast flowing corners and two flat out straights.

Historically not one of Leon's best circuit's for results but that all changed over the weekend.

Leon with his confidence soaring after his recent string of competitive results clocked a time good enough for eighth in free practice. 

In qualifying one his good form carried on and he was ninth fastest but was still disappointed as he knew he could go quicker and more importantly where improvements could be made. However, once again the British weather put pay to his plans for qualifying two as a torrential downpour left the Snetterton track awash with water and with no one going quicker grid positions were set from the earlier dry session.

Starting eighth on the grid after another rider was demoted, he made a great start and held his position into the first two corners. Leon made a couple of places up coming out of turn two as some of the front runners came together, leaving Leon in fifth place at the end of lap one. 

He set about pursuing fourth place as a chasing pack of four riders started to hunt him down. The pack finally caught him midway through the race and despite some stoic defending Leon fell to eighth place at the chequered flag. This leaves Leon in eighth in the Championship and his confidence sky-high for the next round at the fastest circuit on the calendar next Thruxton.

Held Racer Report: Leon Jeacock, National Superstock 1000, RD4, Donington

Another points finish for Held wearer Leon and the Geo E Davies Team! 

A well-deserved result for their weekends work at Donington Park where they were supporting the Acerbis UK Round of the WorldSBK event. This result keeps the momentum gained over the last couple of rounds rolling.

Free practice went extremely well for Leon and he and the team used it to fine tune the BMW S1000RR for the only qualifying session this weekend. After posting a time just outside the top ten he was confident of improving on it for a grid position in the race. Qualifying was a tense affair with just half second covering fourth to tenth place by the end of the session, but Leon kept a calm head and posted tenth fastest and achieved his coveted top ten grid position.

Making a good start Leon held his position and settled into a good race pace. Fighting hard over the sixteen laps he picked his way through and finished in a fantastic eighth place. A great result for rider and team as they build confidence and impetus every time they go out on track.

Speaking after he said “The weekend started great, we had good pace in free practice and knew that with just a couple of changes we could aim for Top 10 in qualifying. We did that with a 10th place grid spot and backed that up with 8th in the race. We weren’t lapping much behind 5th place times so can take the positives from the weekend and aim better next time out. Just want to add my thanks and appreciation to my sponsors, family and friends without them this adventure wouldn't be possible.”
